i got a teiso and it aint this pretty.
i bought mine from a dude off craigslist. we met at night in the fall, on an unlit, suburban street. he wouldn’t let me go inside the house we met at to try it out, so i talked him down from $150 to $90, since he couldn’t prove the electronics worked. it was covered in decades of cigarette smoke and stickers - no, he corrected me, they were temporary tattoos. the strings hadn’t been changed in 7 years (“its from japan, you ain’t need to change the strings!”). i didn’t have the change necessary to hit $90, so he asked that i play him a song in exchange for the last $5. i rested my back on the bumper of his car and propped the hollow-body against my hip - i played and he clapped and now the guitar is mine.
Rustie remix of Machinedrum’s “Back Seat Ho” from the Fenris District E.
Theres a lot to love.
More from Sisyphus, the collab between Serengeti (the MC), Son Lux (prod), and Sufjan Stevens (prod and vocals).
Does anything else sound like this? I feel like they’re a more literary cousin of Death Grips.
Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks - Little Fang
I didn’t post this one right away, because I didn’t like it right away. But we’re here up on the internet because this chorus has been bopping through my brain for the last day.
Avey Tare of Animal Collective has new semi-solo material. This time, he’s joined by Angel D. (formerly of Dirty Projectors and also maybe his new lady?) and the drummer of now defunct Ponytail.
Going by this song, it seems Slash Flicks are a psych rock project with pretty straightforward songs. But it still sounds like Avey Tare - hes a great song-writer with a pretty distinct sound/collective of effects pedals. The guitar is warbly, for example, but more crisp and coherent than with AC or on his last solo effort.
Its a cheery song, and its not so bad to have it slinging round your brain. Give it some listens!
